Touching your eyes, nose, or mouth after making contact with contaminated surfaces such as door handles, can lead to the transmission of viruses such as COVID-19. For this reason, during the pandemic I have always been uncomfortable opening doors, which I think many people can relate to as well. This has been my biggest design project during my high school years. This robot aids survivors stuck under the rubble following an earthquake strike. Abstract: Natural disasters, especially earthquakes, destroy society and disrupt the lives of many people living in that area. Not only so, but it also kills many people through the collapse of man-made structures. Following these disasters, oftentimes there are many survivors stuck under the rubble, alive but with time running out fast. With the lack of food and water, the survivors are placed in a dire situation; however, the long and time-consuming rescue process means that these survivors are oftentimes inevitably going to die. On top of this, the use of heavy equipment to speed the rescue up is not recommended as it could crumble to collapsed buildings, even more, crushing the survivors underneath. The aim of this research is to develop a robot that doesn’t look to speed up the rescue process but lengthen the lives of survivors underneath the rubble to accommodate the long and time-consuming rescue process.

To help out the community during the pandemic, I was able to print out these Face Shields and Door Opening Key chains to donate to community workers around my area.
